Did you know that the modern day search engine has been around in one form or another for almost thirty years now? Gone are the days of angrily leafing through the Yellow Pages when looking for a business, as everything from late night pizza places to local dog salons are just a few taps of our fingers away!
With that being said, have you checked your website’s search rankings recently? As the old joke goes, if you have something to hide, stick it on page two of Google’s search results! With this in mind, you really should be taking full advantage of the tools available to get yourself listed higher. After all, what’s the point of having a responsive and beautifully crafted website if no one can find it?
Let’s have a look at what can be done to help!
Ok, first things first, let’s talk about SEO. SEO or Search Engine Optimisation, does exactly what it says on the tin, i.e. getting your website ranked as highly as possible on (you guessed it) search engines. This is done by focusing on specific keywords about your company which act as signposts for search engine bots to find you.
I.E. we at Revive are a web design and digital marketing company in Southend, so if those words are searched then there we pop up!
Much like the purpose of the platypus or KFC’s 11 secret herbs and spices, search engines’ unique algorithms that they use to rank results will probably forever remain one of life’s great mysteries. However, there are still several things you can do to get yourself ranked higher so you aren’t left in the graveyard beyond page one.
There is no secret formula to getting you the top spot, but one of the key aspects is having well written and, most importantly, relevant content to your business on your web pages. You can’t just flood your website copy with words you assume will get you more hits as those search engine bots are cleverer then you might think at sniffing out spam.
There’s also the option of paid advertisements or SEM (Search Engine Marketing). The first few results listed on any search page are usually relevant ads and if you’re willing to invest in bidding on some keywords relating to your business, then this can be a great tool in pushing more traffic to your site.
In short…Yes. Absolutely. 100%. If you have a website then you’re obviously going to want it seen by as many people as possible. As with any aspect of your marketing, search maintenance isn’t something you can afford to ignore if you want to reach the widest audience and a well-crafted SEO plan can do wonders for your site traffic!
